A little about me....
B.S. in Elementary Education from University of Alabama in Birmingham
M.S. in Library and Information Science from Drexel University
In my teaching experience, I have spent 3 years working as an instructional aide, 6 years as a regular classroom teacher, and 13 years as a media specialist.
As an instructional aide, I worked along side one of the special education teachers in a self-contained room. I really enjoyed assisting these students as we worked together to gain new skills and knowledge.
Later, I taught several combination grade level classes with grade spans ranging from 1st to 6th grade, both in public and private school. It was a pleasure and a challenge to work with the different grade level configurations. Due to the varied needs in this environment, we all learned to serve as "teachers" and "students". I often found that my students taught me as much as I was teaching them. It was nice to be reminded of how beautiful life can be when seen through the eyes of a child!
In 2005, I was offered the chance to serve as Media Specialist for (then) Tarrant Middle School. I was a little apprehensive at first because my educational experience was limited to younger students, but decided to give it a try. Now 13 years later, I have completed my master's degree in Library and Information Science and am currently serving as the media specialist for Tarrant Intermediate School.
I am looking forward to a great year at Tarrant Intermediate. My desire is to help EVERYONE become lifelong learners and experienced readers - this includes parents, teachers, staff, and our future community leaders!
