My name is Mrs. Whittington and I am very excited about serving as your teacher this year! Together we will explore the joys of history as we navigate through 7th and 8th grade.
In 7th grade, we will start the year off with a look at our nation's government. We'll examine the structure of our great government and learn how we, as citizens, can become involved in the political process. Our study will involve fun simulations and debates that will help us form ideas and opinions about issues that concern each of us. During the second semester, we will transition to a study of Geography. In this course we'll learn all about geographic features, cultures, and map skills. By the end, we will gain a deeper appreciation for our country, it's people, and the broader world around us.
The 8th grade classes will journey through World History by examining the prehistoric period up to the 1500s. We will study ancient civilizations such as those in ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome. Noteworthy figures such as Julius Caesar and Alexander the Great will be evaluated as will major battles and events, like the Crusades and Middle Ages. Historic clothing, art, language, and food will be an integral part of our journey through the past.
Our year is action packed! I look forward to getting to know each and everyone of you!
